She can't just put
a "help wanted"
sign in her window
like the manager
of a hardware store.
After, all, pride
is involved,
a matter of face.
She can't let them gloat,
the ones she passed
when she was strong,
always hurrying somewhere
in a shining car.
Stranded in the remains
of her life, she sits
behind the windows
of her eyes, hoping
someone will notice.
