Ways to express gratitude on a daily basis

Without gratitude, life is mere existence. When we find that feeling of appreciation for the ebb and flow of life, and give thanks for each experience, we recognize that life is so much more than what we see on the surface. If you know this to be true, but somehow can't feel the feelings try some of the following suggestions, incorporating all of the ideas over time. You will be amazed and thankful for how little time it takes to incorporate gratitude into your life.

Simply start each day stating, "Thank you for this day". Know in your heart that each day is a new opportunity to live a life of joy, love, peace and passion.

As you prepare for the day, give thanks for the water and tub you shower in, along with toothpaste, soap, and towels. There are many who do not have such luxury.

As you dress, look at your wardrobe and give thanks for the choices you have. The daily ritual of dressing gives you time to contemplate life's many choices and blessings. How will you respond?

Throughout the day, pay attention to your interactions with others. Do you show appreciation for bosses, employees, co-workers, and those who provide services? The practice of a simple heart felt thank you to others returns to you in a very short time. Remember, what we give to others comes back to us. If you have problems getting others to cooperate, try a new approach of gratitude versus complaint. When you approach people with appreciation, they are more inclined to give their best effort, whether it is service, advice or directions.

Show gratitude for family and friends. Take time to appreciate their support; give thanks for the little things they do. As you appreciate them more, the less you will focus on their annoying habits. If you show gratitude for the good, the irritation will no longer be necessary to get your attention, and may even disappear. That, in itself is reason to take time to show gratitude. Share your joy with them, and they will share with you.

Paying bills can become a ritual of appreciation. Take this time to be grateful for the services provided, whether it is health care, utilities, telephone or credit cards. What would you do without these blessing in your life? Write a small note of gratitude on each bill. If your credit cards provided you with a holiday, new clothes, a good book, or even some unnecessary extravagance, don't allow the joy you had in the moment to be overshadowed by the payment required. At tax time be grateful that your taxes provide education, health
