Experiencing divine intervention

Have you ever noticed the reaction of some people when you mention the word "angel"? You realize from the expression on their face, they are hearing the music to the twilight zone. Obviously, they have not experienced divine intervention and are probably not going to believe anything you relate to them past that point. It is truly a shame, because believing it is possible gives us hope, especially during times of tragedy.

The story I am going share with you was experienced by my son. I have had experiences but nothing that compares to his encounter. In order for you to truly understand the ramifications of this story, I will have to share a brief background.

My son had been convicted of a crime, he did not commit, at the age of 16. He was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole, which to a 16 year old, was a sentence of death. While sitting in an isolated dungeon, and witnessing several young men attempt suicide and some succeeding; he began saving his sleeping pills they gave him, to ease his nightmares.

He was located in what they called the segregation unit, with only an occasional guard passing by his cell. He had accumulated over 30 pills and swallowed them, but within minutes realized he really did not want to die. He tried to make himself throw up but it was too late. So, he lay back on his bed and waited for the pills to take effect and his life to come to an end.

Apparently, God thought differently and a guard found him; normally he would not have seen a guard until morning. He was already unconscious and to make sure he wasn't pretending, they dropped him down a flight of stairs, explaining why he had bruises on his body from a drug overdose. Finally convinced he was not faking, they took him to the free world hospital and there he remained unconscious.

When the prison called and informed me of what had happened, I begged them to allow me to see my son; they refused. I pleaded for them to allow our pastor to be by his side, so he would not be alone; they refused. So, the entire church body began praying that he not be alone; that God send someone to be there to comfort my son.

We waited and prayed for 3 days and he finally came out of the coma. When I heard his voice on the phone, even though his voice was rough and scratchy, it was the most beautiful words I have ever heard. It was at that moment he shared the story with me about the woman that sat by his side every day.

He said there was a woman with long brown hair, like I use to have, that stayed with him. She was always there when he would open his eyes for a moment, and would smile and pat his hand. She asked him did that horrible place make him do this and he told her yes. She assured him he was going to be all right and she would not leave. Her presence gave him the peace and comfort to not feel alone.

Immediately after he awakened from his coma, he asked the nurses where the nurse was with the long brown hair. He told them he wanted to thank her for her kindness and staying there with him. All the nurses replied that there was no nurse by that description and no one had been sitting by his bed. They told him that no one had been allowed in his room but nurses and doctors on duty.

Well, they were wrong, there may not have been a nurse, but someone was there and she was sent in answer to all our prayers. We prayed incessantly for someone to be there in our place, to give him peace and comfort and that is exactly why that angel was present, in answer to our prayer. I still get goose bumps when I repeat this story and feel sorry for the unbelievers whom will never know they can experience divine intervention during their times of tribulation.
