Acne can be both unsightly and embarassing, so most sufferers are keen to do just about anything they can to get rid of it. There are a plethora of topical products that claim to help, but often they make very little difference. So instead of pouring more money into the latest potion, why not consider home remedies. When it comes to home remedies for acne, the best course of treatment is to attack it from three angles. These are diet, skincare and supplements.
Diet
It is important to provide your body with the right nutrients to help promote healthy skin. There are many foods that can help with the fight against acne and there are also several foods that should be avoided because they can aggravate the skin.
Foods to include:
Garlic-has antiseptic and antibacterial properties which help keep skin clear.
Increase your intake of Vitamin C foods. Vitamin C assists the production of collagen and helps fight infection. Good sources include; oranges, grapefruit, lemons, blackcurrants and blackberries.
Eat foods rich in Omega 3 oils. Omega 3's contain potent antioxidants which help with the skin's health. Good sources include; oily fish such as salmon, walnuts and flaxseed oil. Other oils that are good for the skin include; olive oil and cod liver oil.
Include sources of Vitamin A like green leafy vegetables and carrots. Vitamin A can reduce the production of sebum, which is the oil that lubricates the skin and is often in excess in acne sufferers.
Include sources of B group vitamins like Thiamine. A deficiency in Vitamin B can worsen acne. Good sources include; avocado, watermelon, peppers, and Bananas.
Drink Green Tea- this tea is rich in anti-inflammatory properties.
Drink plenty of water
Eat lots of berries-they are rich in phytochemicals which are protective to skin cells. Blueberries, Cranberries and Raspberries are all good choices.
Foods to avoid:
Dairy products-there are hormones in these products which can be highly aggravating to the skin. Make sure you still include sources of calcium in your diet, such as eating lots of nuts.
Sugar-avoid sugar laden foods like soft drinks, lollies and processed cakes and biscuits. Artificial sweeteners like Aspartame can also aggravate the skin and are best to avoid.
Greasy, processed food-hydrogenated oils used in fast food, processed biscuits and cakes should be avoided.
Skin care
Skincare consists of six steps including; Cleansing, toning, moisturizing, exfoliating and the application
