I know from experience that some of the newer iPods don't come with the iTunes software included. This can be a real pain when you first get your iPod out of its box. But in all reality, it doesn't really make much of a difference. You can always just download iTunes.
iTunes, I should explain, is the default music storage program for the iPod. It stores and shows music in an easy to use way. Unlike many other music storage programs, or just storing all the music somewhere in your computer, iTunes makes moving music from your computer to your MP3 player a breeze. If you have an iPod hooked up to your computer, it will show up in the iTunes sidebar. Then, from your library, you just drag and drop music (and music videos and movies, etc.) to your iPod. Much easier than looking through your whole computer for one song.
But enough about what iTunes is, you came here to learn how to download it. It's pretty simple really.
1. Open your Internet browser and go to the Apple website (www.apple.com) and click iPod + iTunes on the top navigation bar.
2. From there, look to the left of the screen and you will see another bar, on the top of which should be a label reading iTunes (whatever the latest version is, 7 at the time of writing) and below that a button that says download.
3. After that, you have to enter your e-mail address and pick if you want e-mails about Apple news and music offers (I would suggest that you not sign up for either of these).
4. After all that is done, just hit the button below that says download iTunes free. Wait for it to download to your computer, and there you have it.You now have iTunes on your computer.
Pretty simple, huh? Only four steps really. Now all you need to do is start filling up that empty library with songs from the iTunes store, or CDs or your computer.
Now, if you already have iTunes on your computer, but you want to download the latest version, there are two things that you can do. The first is follow the steps above and re-download iTunes from the Internet. I wouldn't suggest this though because, it seems to me, that that's more trouble than it's worth, not to mention it might wipe out your whole library. The second, easier and much safer way to download the most recent iTunes is just open iTunes. If there is a newer version, as soon as you open iTunes, it should give you the option to download. Click yes, wait for the download, and you're all set.
