Signs that a dog is pregnant

tendency to bury food and toys and dig up plants in the process. She will just be addicted to digging for seemingly no apparent reason, but she is actually just burying and finding things for her future puppies. This stage is often a dead give-away that your dog may be pregnant and this is often the one that people go to have her checked out at the vet. This can sometimes be a harder stage to notice for some dogs as they may enjoy digging anyway, therefore, for certain owners it is crucial to look out for the other stages also.

You may also find that sometimes she may become aggressive. With some dogs this happens normally when you try to wake them when they are very tired, but this will generally be a typical behavioural sign that she may be pregnant. She will snap at you and go for you' so to speak, but will always stop before she actually bites you. This is just a warning sign that she does not want attention right now and just wants to be left alone. You must be sure not to scold her during this stage, it can send her nasty as well as depressed. In this stage it is also a good idea to have a vet come out and check on her instead of taking her to the vet to avoid disturbing her.

It is up to you as a dedicated and responsible owner to notice these specific signs, especially if you planned for your dog to get pregnant. However; if it is an unplanned pregnancy, it is up to you to look out for these signs and know what they mean. In general if you do not want your dog to have pups, it is ALWAYS a must to have her spayed after her first season is over or her second at the LATEST. Any later can result in serious health issues in her later life and is not recommended.

With all that said, congratulations and have fun raising your little puppy companions!
