If you can only have one: Lipstick or lip gloss?

After reading recent articles on the discovery of traces of harmful iron in certain lipsticks I considered trying lip gloss. Once in middle school I wore clear lip gloss and I felt really uncomfortable with it on. The gloss felt like a greasy film on my lips. In high school I looked for lipstick only. The bright colors I picked had to be blended in so the color wouldn't run and so I could get a natural look.

Most recently during the coldest days of winter I developed chapped lips. I tried every product possible to get rid of my chapped lips. Nothing worked my lips. Finally in desperation for something to soothe my lips I decided to use lip gloss - just to coat my lips. To my surprise the gloss smelled great and I could feel a tingling sensation on my lips. Within twenty-four hours my lips improved. I noticed that the gloss was frosted and it looked great on my lips. My chapped lips actually recovered from the dryness I was suffering during the winter. I may never go back to lipstick now.

Lipstick requires a lip pencil especially during the hot summer days. Lip gloss has better moisturizing qualities as well as having the tendency to stay on lips without running. In addition, a gloss seems to be less toxic than the lipstick and not as waxy or heavy. For a light natural fresh feel for all day I think the lip gloss is the best choice especially for teens. Mothers can let their young daughters try lip gloss without the expense and worry of a brand of lipstick not suitable for young girls. Now adults with sensitivities can either look for a brand of lipstick developed especially for those of us who have allergies or we can just simply choose to wear a lip gloss safe enough for a pre-teen.

My middle school days will now be relived as an adult who chooses the fruity-fresh-gloss over the grown up thickly-fragranced-lipstick of choice during my high school days. Today I think I would have felt healthier as a teen if I would have worn lip gloss on more days. Glosses and sticks are beginning to be developed with similar qualities in fact I recall buying a lipstick with the fruity taste of a gloss and remember having to reapply it many times during the day. Unfortunately I found out that the lipstick I was wearing and reapplying may have been harmful. The question remains could lipstick be bad for a grown adult?
