How to find free and cheap children's activities for weekends

Single parents have many roles to juggle; disciplinarian, caregiver, event planner, financial planner, cook, housekeeper, doctor, counselor, handy person...the list goes on. When the weekends arrive, single parents know that there is no such thing as rest, especially with active children. However, as the financial planner role kicks in, weekends can seem daunting financially. So exactly how do you provide a fun, filled weekend with your kids on a budget?

As a single parent and high school teacher, I am familiar with budgeting down to the penny. Due to the fact that my son and I are not homebodies, I have had to be creative and an excellent sleuth to keep both of us entertained. There are some weekends when we simply want to lounge around the house. But for the rest of the time, these are the avenues that can be used to find interesting and fun -filled activities for our weekend on a budget.

The Internet

Many people are capable of surfing the Internet. What can save time and frustration to using the web is to know how to perform Boolean searches. Based on Boolean logic, the relationship between search words, this type of searching will help you find what you are looking for even if you are not sure what you are looking for. The following keyword combinations can help you get started to find activities and also devise your own combinations to specify to your families specific taste. Simply type them in the search engine of your choice and you'll soon be ready to go.

Type: children activities free
- By adding the word free the searches that come up will show information about websites
containing any combination of these words.

Type: "Weekend activities" Family
- The quotation marks are used to ensure that only websites that contain the exact word
combination Weekend Activities are found.

Type: Weekend family activities +single parent
- This combination performers a basic search, but allows you to add the keyword
single parent so that you can search activities devised specifically for single parent
households.

Type: Weekend family activities -teenagers
- If you are the parent of a younger child, you may want to find activities in which
there will not be any teenagers present. In this search the minus sign is used to
imply a search for weekend activates which do not have any information concerning
teenagers.

There are many different keywords that you can try in combinations. Here are some suggestions:

Low cost
Cheap
Frugal
Budget
Weekend Fun
Family Fun
Things to do
