Is the Bible trustworthy?

To ask if the Bible is trustworthy, would be like looking at instructions on how to operate your mobile phone and saying "these are not correct, I am going to throw them away!"

People say we are not born with an instruction book to help us through life, well happily we are. That is what the Bible is, a handbook for survival.

To call the Bible a book that is purely the word of God, would be wrong. It is a collection of books put together over a long period of time, and written by many authors.

Each of those authors had their own interpretation of Gods word, and therefore hold many conflicting accounts of events.

The basics of the Bible is to give people a pathway through life, to add sense and reason to existence, and to give hope through struggle and injustice.

The Bible tells us what to eat for our health sake, how to get along with other people and who we should form relationships with, again all part of health, mental and physical. But most of all it tries to give direction into what is "RIGHT & WRONG". The names' of God and the Devil are acronyms for Good and Evil.

Do not forget that the Bible was written over a time when most of the people could not read or write, so most of the text was written for scholars to read to the masses, rather like reading a bedtime story to your children. Just like children's stories a lot of those in the Bible are written in 'Parable' so the listener could understand the meaning and would remain interested in the story.

No one in modern times believes the Earth was created in seven days, but the true facts and figures would be too complicated for the minds of the masses at that time. Rather like reading Einstein's theory of relativity to a child.

As to Revelations, and things yet to come, if you look back in history, these things have happened time and time again, war, famine, destruction. The whole thing goes on in a never ending circle of life. As for Utopia, well we can only live in hope!

God said he is "Alpha & Omega" the beginning and the end, so until we know how and when the universe started, how big it is and where its boundary signifies its end, I don't think we have to worry too much about the end of the world. Time is irrelevant in the universe, all we have to worry about is our own individual life span, and how we spend our time on Earth.

We are all writing our individual articles for the Bible, so make sure yours is one of honesty and integrity, because maybe one day in the distant future someone may be having a debate about if our accounts of our actions are trustworthy.
