Past life regression and how it works

Past life regression can seem highly exotic, magical and even dangerous to people, but it's actually an excellent therapy tool and can provide great healing. The best experience would be facilitated by a certified hypnotherapist trained in past life regressions. There are self-help hypnosis techniques available, but they are limited in the scope and depth of the experience. A trained, objective guide can tailor the experience to the client, and offer resolutions to any knotty situations that may arise. While there is no inherent danger in hypnosis itself, reviewing traumatic situations can be difficult, and a good facilitator can ease a client through the experience with limited stress and maximum healing.

Finding a regression therapist is easy as well. The International Board for Regression Therapists (IBRT.org) is an organization that has developed a standard for regression therapists and certifies them accordingly. Their web page has a list of therapists from around the world, as well as articles, training, books and a wealth of related information.

All hypnotic experiences begin with an induction, which may vary from facilitator to facilitator. Most involve suggestions for relaxation, visualization and tools of the imagination. Techniques to move clients into the past may involve the suggestion of going through a tunnel, walking down a corridor, walking down stairs or some similar activity. Once at the threshold of the past life, the client will begin to receive information and then relay that to the facilitator.

Interestingly enough, not everyone receives information the same way. Most people "see" their past lives through a visual modality, but any or all of the senses can provide a pathway and regressions often involve multiple sensations. In rare cases, a client may only hear the past life unfold, or feel it, and yet the experience is still very full and textured. I had one client who was describing an incident to me and I asked her a question, saying, "Can you see X?" She responded that she did not see anything, but only felt it, yet she could describe features of the area, people, even colors. I found this interesting, as I always see everything, as if I am watching a movie in my head.

In my work, I've found that clients will generally begin a past life regression early in the life and then proceed along the course of the lifetime, jumping from one time of importance to another as we examine the people, relationships and situations.
