In the Indian Himalayas, glaciers are melting. This melting is effecting the volumetric flow rate of many of the most important rivers in India and South Asia. These effects are expected to effect millions of lives in India.
India has rejected global warming in the past, but has began to sing a different tune. Amid mounting international pressure, India, in July of 2007, began taking their first steps towards developing a national plan to tackle the effects of global warming and assess its own greenhouse gas emissions.
India's government has begun concentrating on energy sources that are capable of reducing emissions, such as hydro, nuclear and solar power. India's government also has begun to address the melting of the glaciers on the Himalayas. India is replanting 15 million acres of degraded forests. But as a developing nation, India is not required to cut emissions.
The United States has finally realized how much we contribute to global warming. NASA has launched an unprecedented campaign over Antarctica, in order to measure the contaminants in the air, where they come from, how much they are effecting our atmosphere and the researchers are, for the first time, seriously looking at global warming.
The United States has set into action, legislation, that over time ,will reduce emissions from our factories and automobiles. Until, carbon monoxide,(CO2), is substantially reduced, we will continue to see our planet slow heat up.
In January of 2007, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change,(IPCC), voiced their concern about the melting of alpine glaciers and snow cover, retreating permafrost and shifting rain fall patterns as signs that global warming had already started to interfere with the climate.
By 2100, the IPCC says the average global surface temperature could rise between 1.1 to 6.4 degrees Celsius,(1.98 degree Fahrenheit and 11.52 degree Fahrenheit). This theory is based on how much carbon dioxide,(CO2),is in the air.
Millions of people are speaking up for solutions to the global warming crisis. Every nation and every single human being, can do their part to reduce the effects of global warming. The existence of mankind may very well depend on it.
