The global warming controversy, is a dispute regarding the nature and consequences of global warming. Issues such as global average air temperature, predictions of additional warming, what the consequences are, climate sensitivity, and what action should be taken, have been brought to the forefront of most all of our largest developing countries.
Japan pledged $100 million dollars to the Asian Development Bank, in the form of grants. These grants are earmarked to combat the effects of global warming and promote greener investments throughout the region. Japan also has called for a stronger international agreement to cut greenhouse gas emissions.
Due to the overwhelming concern that Asia's enormous economic growth has become a major contributor to global warming, grants were issued to provide sustainable development in hopes of aggressively addressing this concern.
In the European Union, global warming has been a very important issue. A great deal of concern has been raised about the European's contributions to global warming and what can be done about it. In 1997, all the European states ratified the Kyoto Protocol. The Kyoto Protocol was enacted to reduce greenhouse gases that cause climate change. However, some parts of the European nation had already begun working on this problem, prior to 1990. As of November 2007, 175 parties have ratified the protocol. One hundred and thirty seven countries have ratified the protocol, including China, Brazil and India. Under this protocol, these countries are under no obligations other than monitoring and reporting emissions.
China, one the world's largest producers of greenhouse gases, launched a government fund in November of 2007 to channel the funds, from the sale of emission-reduction credits, into environmental projects. China is committed to reducing the effects of climate change, but has resisted adopting emission reduction standards under international agreements.
The Amazon state of Brazil enacted a law to fight global warming by selling carbon credits form communities that limit deforestation and environmental degradation. A "jungle fund" was created that rewards jungle communities for protecting their habitat.
Brazil is the fourth leading producer of carbon dioxide, the main green house gas contributing to global warming. The problem is magnetized by the deforestation due to logging, farming and livestock breeding.
The effects of global warming on India include the sub-mergence of low lying islands and coastal lands.
