Poetry: Chain reactions

The snake it whispered into Eve's ear,
"Taste the fruit that God holds so dear".
But Eve resisted his request,
And listened instead to God's behest.

Not to eat the forbidden fruit,
And gain a name of ill-repute.
The snake would not give up so easily,
And nagged at Eve most unceasingly.

Until at last she took a bite,
And earned God's wrath so very might.
Eve looked at Adam with eyes anew,
And said "I must get him to taste it too".

And so learning quickly from the snake,
She nagged at him to also partake.
For she did not want to suffer alone,
The anger of God she would come to bemoan.

And when the nagging he could take no more,
He bit that apple to it's very core.
And being a parent whose children disobey,
God couldn't let them have the last say.

So for the women who abide this earth,
He gave to them a child's birth.
To the men of the world he did bequeath,
A wife who nags and a little fig leaf.

But the greatest punishment that God could find,
Was to give them children who just wouldn't mind.
And I'm sorry to tell you that until this day,
It's still a misdeed for which we pay!
