Why it's better to give than receive

by Niki V

Why is it better to give than to receive? It is a question that seems to grate against the capitalist nature of our American democratic system. In a society and for that matter a world that endears the dog-eat-dog type of tenacity and applauds greed, it causes us to appeal to a higher, better nature which is in us all. While naturally, many people are glad to receive, there is an awkwardness that comes about to most when the gift seems more than what we feel we are entitled to. Therefore, it is easier and feels better to be able to do for someone else. It is especially, wonderful when it is well received. There is such a sense of fulfillment in giving.

Another thought about giving comes from research and studies have been done to suggest that those who give have a greater sense of joy, fulfillment and anticipation of positive things in their lives. The counterpart, those predisposed to keeping to themselves, are often more paranoid, displeased and anticipate more negative things to happen in their life. Being a giver, in that sense, actual helps you. It generates a cycle, the more you give, the more you want to give. Fortunately, the cycle of hording, although it has its tug, is easily broken when the hoarder gives, freely without being forced to or without the desire of a great tax break. Then they too can join the happy hundreds.

A last, however, not final look at giving and its benefits comes from a slightly less practical place. It is more spiritual it is concept and is phrased similarly to the topic, but instead of being a question it is a statement. Giving is a biblical principle. God gave His Son for the world. It is a remarkable example of giving. He gave to a world that had long given up giving to Him. A world that found new a selfish ways to depart from His love, yet, He gave. In the same Holy Book, is a principle of reaping and sowing, this is part of the natural and universal order of things. It is better to give, simply because when you live according to the Universal Law designed by the Creator of the Universe, you will have good success in all aspects of your life. Therefore, we should give, share, enjoy each other and treat one another better than we would ourselves and in effect generate a great sense of harmony and equity. Giving makes us all better and when we give humanity is at its best.
