Severe symptoms follow. Skin wheals form almost immediately. The tissue around your eyes swell up to such an extent that you cannot open them. Lips become swollen. Because of tissue swelling around the mouth and your tongue, your throat will feel blocked. Inflammation of the skin over a large area will result in a dramatic drop in blood pressure. The heart beats so rapidly that some patients pass out.

Allergies can be mild or severe. They are treatable. Latter day remedies are varied and very effective. Of course, prevention is better than cure. Removing the cause of the allergy is the best treatment. However, you are only able to do this if the culprit is known.

Even when it has been identified removal of the cause may not alleviate symptoms immediately. In the case of feline hairs allergy may persist for up to six weeks after the animal has been taken away. Minute hairs are distributed by the flow of air for some time after the animal has gone.

Some antigens are extremely hard to reach. For instance there are microscopic creatures living in all bedding and upholstery. They thrive in warm environments and live on the scales of human skin. Their elimination is more difficult and topical sprays are normally used. Even better is the substitution of all natural fibers with synthetic ones. These mites are not partial to artificial materials.

In most cases, when you are experiencing any of the abovementioned symptoms, doctors will inject you with medicine to desensitize the area affected. This treatment is itself made up of antigen derivatives. You may also be prescribed with anti allergic drugs. These are a great help in lessening the severity of the symptoms. Topical creams are popular and very effective. In the case of eye irritation drops are used.

Asthma is treated with tablets and inhalant aids. Antihistamines are not used here. Usually one medication is given for use between attacks and another for the attack duration.

Hay Fever usually responds well to antihistamines, a clever drug that helps bypass histamine receptors. Modern antihistamines do not make you drowsy as their older counterparts used to. This is a great help if you have to work or drive your car. Building resistance to grass pollens may take more than a single dose and doctors may prescribe treatment for several weeks.

Whatever the nature of your allergy, treatment is available. The earlier you begin taking the medication the less your discomfort will be. If you are not sure whether you are allergic or not doctors can test you for sensitivity. You can help the process by keeping a note of the instances when the reactions occur. Observe what you have eaten, where you have been, and when you have come into contact with whatever you believe could be causing the allergy. This information helps diagnose your condition more effectively.
