tightly or loosely as comfort requires and it supports your earlobe at the same time.
If you are able to tolerate a basic hoop through the lobe and leave it on permanently, you can look at purchasing yourself what came to be known as the Pretty Woman earring. It was made famous in the well known Julia Roberts movie of that name. Here the basic hoop is varied so that an attachment can be added if the wearer so wishes. Make sure that you get used to the hoop before you begin adding any attachments. When you do, choose only small, lightweight additions. The style and variety of these is endless and you will be pushed for choice.
Sometimes the reason for experiencing sensitivity to earrings, once your ears have been pierced, is not the thickness of your lobes or the point at which the incision was made. It can also be a result of the metal worn in the ear. Some people are sensitive to certain metals contained within the alloys used in the crafting of the earring.
In such a case you need to try to find out what metal it is you are intolerant of. It is not 8ct or 9 ct gold or even 18 or 24ct gold that you are allergic to but to the small percentage of other metals used inside the gold mixture to give it color, flexibility or strength. If for instance you know that it is copper that causes your sensitivity you would then steer away from choosing rose or red gold earrings. They contain copper to give them their reddish hue.
Sometimes people are allergic to steel, cadmium or nickel, all of which are used in the manufacture of gold jewelry. In such an instance you would then ensure that you go to a fine jeweler who uses only pure metals in the manufacture of his jewelry. For example in very good quality jewelry the manufacturer will often use pure silver or platinum when mixing up his white gold items. Pure metals cannot cause allergy or discoloration. However, they are more expensive than their less illustrious counterparts. Their use can also make the items heavier to wear.
If you have to wear your earrings and are in discomfort, take a piece of cotton wool and insert it between the lobe and the attachment mechanism until you are used to it or are able to get to a jeweler to have it attended to.
Generally when you are choosing earrings for your sensitive, pierced ears you need to inform the salesperson of your condition. Look for lightweight, high content gold earrings and pay attention to the fit, comfort and suitability to your lobe of the choice you make.
