I always ask my customers whether the earrings they are about to purchase are comfortable on the ear.
Earrings may be exquisite and look wonderful on, but if they cause discomfort you will not enjoy wearing them.
Some women have sensitive ears. Piercing can further exacerbate the problem. After piercing their lobes tend to lose the ability to bear weight. So ladies with thinner ear lobes and less skin will experience problems.
If you fall into this category you will need to choose your earrings with care. The most suitable items are small studs that have an adjustable butterfly attachment to secure behind the ear.
Some women find the butterfly attachment uncomfortable. In this case the rubber or silicone plugs, known as stabilizers,' can be fitted to any earring with a spoke. This has a round backing which helps to support the ear lobe and is also adjustable. If you do not want it to be tight you do not put too much pressure when securing.
If you are a lady with sensitive, pierced ears and you want to get away from the mandatory stud earring, you can look at a dangly, drop style earring. However, you should make sure it is a lightweight item. Ensure that it is secured by means of a hook attachment which is light to wear because of its negligible gram weight.
Some customers find that it is not the lobe thickness that causes them to be sensitive to their earrings. Instead it is the hole that was made by the piercing agent. In this instance it is advisable to choose an earring that has a rounded, very thin spoke through the ear. A thicker linear spoke may irritate the lobe hole owing to its inflexibility. Choose a hook attachment.
Do not feel shy to go back to your jeweler with an earring that is causing you discomfort. Often jewelers are able to adjust the offending earring to make it more comfortable to wear. For instance a butterfly attachment can be opened or closed slightly to loosen or tighten the fit. Often earrings attachments can be changed at the workshop to suit the customer.
If you are a person who experiences sensitivity to earrings it is an idea to steer clear of clip-on attachments as they rely on a sturdy, thicker lobe to cling to. The pressure and weight of a clinging earring may cause you distress.
Screw on backings were very popular in the middle of the last century but are seldom found today because the mechanism is too large and expensive to make .It can also be unsightly behind the ear. However, you do have the flexibility to affix the earring as
