One saturday night as I waited patiently at the bus-stop for the bus I realised that it was getting late. "Where is the bus I asked myself.' I began pacing back and forth. "If only dad had fulfilled his promise in picking me up I wouldn't have been standing here." I murmured.
I glanced at my watch it was now 10:30 pm. I took a look at the bus schedule. To my dismay the next bus was scheduled for 11pm. There was no one around and it was getting colder. I took out my cell phone to call my father but the batteries were dead. The thought of me walking home entered my mind. "My house is approximately fifteen blocks away so what's the worst that can happen and besides I will get home before the bus comes." I thought.
Suddenly, the screeching of a vehicle's tires interrupted my thoughts. I turned in the direction in which the sound was coming and saw a car approaching in full gear. It's headlights were so bright it was difficult for me keep my eyes open. As it came closer I noticed that it's speed was decreasing then it abruptly stopped a few inches from where I was standing.
The tinted windows of the black mustang slowly wind down and the face of a man appeared through the opening.
I nervously took a couple steps back. I can hear the throbbing of my heart and for a moment or two I felt the rush of warm blood through my body.
"What's up little princess? want a lift?" The man asked.
I looked at him and I replied "no thank you". My voice was a bit shaky.
"What are you doing all by yourself this hour of the night?" He asked . To that I did not reply.
"Look I am willing to take you home if you like I am a nice guy I will not hurt you." he said.
"Sir thank you for your offer but my dad would be hear soon." I remarked. I took my cell phone from my pocket and pretended I was dialing a number.
I walked to one side away from his car but where I had him in view and placed the phone to my ear "Hi dad how far away are you?" I asked. "One block away okay that's great!" I exclaimed into the phone.
I noticed a light in the distance. The man looked at me then pulled his head into his car and he drove away. I stared into the distance and noticed it was the bus I happened to be waiting on. I looked at my watch it was 10:55 pm. I was so relieved to get on the bus I closed my eyes and relaxed for the journey home.
