Finding one's way

You don't know everything, nor will you ever know everything. You may find this statement to be true, to be abrupt and in your face.

It is not your job to know everything in the world. What is your job is to find what it is that you want to be, do and have and dedicate yourself to it. If you want to drive yourself crazy, try to be everything for everyone.

Your calling, talents and abilities lie on one path. It is your job to find that path. This at times is not very easy. I have first hand experience in knowing the pull from different directions.

Time, fear, circumstances are the major detractors and distracters from the path that is inborn. These considerations are never a reason for choosing an area to specialize or pursue a course of study. I have heard the arguments such as well if I study law now I will be 50 by the time I am done. My answer is so what, you will be 50 anyway.

Fear is generated by uncertainty. You don't know if you can be successful at a particular profession. Yet, by not pursuing it, you will never find out. When fear grips you and you allow it to dominate your life, life is then not in your control. You have to answer fear with action and there is no other solution other than "doing."

No matter what the profession, career or path of work that you decide on, you won't know everything starting out. No matter how much you have studied or the experience under your belt, there is always more to learn. This is why defining your goals is so important.

Every vocation comes with it requirements, in some areas not as rigid or demanding but basic requirements are necessary for that vocation. Let us say you want to be a police officer. It comes with certain requirements such as education, physical, psychological and age requisites. If you want to be a jockey you have to be a certain size, weight and at least be able to ride a fast horse.

If you wanted to become a real estate mogul, you better know everything about it. You need negotiation, evaluation and wealth management skills. One would have to determine if they want to go into commercial or private real estate ventures or a degree of both. You may also need investment money to start.

Realize that even those that hit it "overnight" did not really hit it over night. One hears the story of some teenager who became savvy with some idea, built a business and sold it for millions of dollars. I will let you in on the secret. They studied and excelled in a course of study, they applied it and they became wealthy.
