lets me use Google Reader like an email inbox for news. Once I have read it it gets "deleted". Nothing actually gets deleted just it wont show up in my news unless I click see all. The great part about nothing being deleted is that all your feeds are stored for you to search from within Google Reader. If you remember reading something you can easily find it by searching for it. If you want to make an item easier to search for you can even tag all the stories you read. If you read something and you know you want to keep it you can start it by clicking the star symbol next to its title, and it will be added to a sort of favorites you can easily bring up. If you familiar with Gmail, the stars work the same way you would use them with your mail.
Staring items is not the only thing you can do with them. One of my favorite things is the email a story feature. Foe example if your reading something you now a friend or family member will love you can easily email it clicking the email button at the bottom of the story of by just clicking the letter "e" on your keyboard. This will use ajax to have a drop down email work that will automatically link it to the story. The great part about this is that it is linked to your Gmail contact list, so if you start to type a contacts name it will automatically come up. Lastly you can organize all your feeds into different folders so you don't have your political news mixed in with your technology news. Google Reader is an amazing powerful, simple yet free feed reader for the masses.
