Jazz has evolved into many different variations since it's emergence from the streets of America's very own New Orleans, Louisiana. The origin of jazz was influenced by the early African American cakewalks, coon songs and jig bands, which by 1895 developed into the music form called ragtime. Ragtime music was the precursor to jazz and influenced the very first style of jazz which has now brought us so many different variations of the true form of what we call jazz.
New Orleans style - The music industry likes to refer to it as "Classic jazz", would be our first original form of jazz. Classic jazz began to emerge in the late 1800's and early 1900's and played by brass bands. This energetic form of music comprised with forms of ragtime, marches, hymns, work songs, melodies and blues. Fascinating point was that many of the instruments used to perform Classic jazz were retrieved or salvaged from the confederate war.
Hot Jazz -. Around 1925 came Hot jazz and was notably made famous by Louis Armstrong and the first of his Hot five and Hot seven bands. Hot jazz continued well into the 1928's and the sound started to spread across the country inspiring new and young artists that took the music from it's infancy stage and continued its evolve.
Chicago style - Chicago style jazz broke ground shortly after the Hot Jazz found its place in the world of jazz. Chicago style jazz furthered the evolution of jazz and its variations. Chicago style jazz continued strong until the 1930's ushered in yet another improved version of jazz known as "Swing".
Swing - Known as the dance and invigorating form of jazz took the stage and swept the early 1930's into a new form of jazz music. Swing immediately connected with people because of it's explosive composition and ability to move people into a dancing frenzy. Swing also began show casing soloist spots within a song which have now become popular in all forms of jazz.
Kansas City Style - Kansas city style jazz came about during the times of depression and prohibition periods.Kansas city style jazz was characterized by its soul and bluesy influenced arrangements. This form of jazz was also noted for it's highly energized solo performances during a song. Kansas city jazz often entertained the "speakeasy" crowd.
Bebop - The 1940's gave us Bebop. Until Bebop emerged the earlier forms of jazz was improvised from melodic lines. Bebop engineered and mastered chordal improvisations and gave the soloist a broader range of exploration in the music
