Poetry: Fiesta

by April Self

Created on: April 03, 2008

At the word fiesta pictures come to mind,
of dancing women in flowing skirts and peasant blouses.
Men in tailored pants and jackets.
History steeped structures of spanish houses.

Sombreros in colorful regalias,
women with slicked back hair and red dahlias.
Playing for a crowd in high heeled shoes,
clapping and stomping of feet infuse.

The hot pepper candles glow,
in a garden party they show.
In candle lit caresses,
men groomed and women in flowery dresses.

Laughter floating on the breeze,
as crooning sounds of spanish music please,
the ears of those party goers.
As the night comes, the noise lowers.

And murmurs are heard in the still of night,
as the fiesta slows to a drizzle,
candle lit tables their candles fizzle,
out and so does the party tempo.

And still the music of the fiesta
tease the attendants into slow dances.
Finally the party goers leave, and head home for a siesta.
Couples holding each other close, as the night continues its' romances.
