Poetry: Darkness

THE DARKNESS

Darkness envelops me
Like a black satin glove.
It chokes the life out of me.
It bleeds me of all peace and love.

I'm frozen in this latency,
Unable to move forward.
It takes my courage away,
Leaving behind a coward.

The ground that I've fallen upon
I must use to push myself up again.
As I eat the dirt of despondency,
I have no one but me to blame.

Momentarily I'm defeated,
But as low as I may be now,
Hope will arise like a bird in flight
When I remind myself of my vow.

No matter how dire my circumstance,
I promised myself to do my best.
This darkness has its purpose,
My inner resolution to test.

The beautiful lotus flower
Blooms from a muddy mire.
From this karmic muck
For a new awakening I aspire.

Rising from the darkness
Is as difficult as giving birth.
I'll be reborn once again
As I emerge from the earth.

With water of wisdom, I'll wash off
The dirt of my delusion.
Free myself of the darkness,
Created by my mind's illusion.
