It has become evident for many bar-goers and party hounds around the country that driving under the influence (DUI, not be confuse with its' twin, DWI)is fast becoming an art form. Some say cough drops rather than chewing gum overpowers the scent of alcohol. Then there are those who maintain that driving in a straight line (on the right side of the road, of course)and avoiding any side to side vehicle sway makes for best practice. Still, others make the claim that simply driving well above the speed limit mathematically decreases your chances of being caught due to physically being on the road less.
Statistics show that the chances of actually being pulled over on any given night (or day) by police (both state and local)are slim, to say the very least. The number of drivers on the roadways at any given time far outnumber the amount of law enforcement officers on those very same roads. The number of drivers actually under the influence among the drivers not under the influence then become the proverbial needle in the haystack.
Law enforcement staffing patterns alone provide excellent "cover and concealment" for the intoxicated masses frequenting our nations roadways. The amount of officers law enforcement agencies deploy to the roads drops off drastically after 11:00 PM (interestingly, when the number of intoxicated drivers on the roadways begin to increase). Law enforcement agencies may very well find themselves playing a roulette-like cat and mouse game night in, night out.
Looking for simple tips to prevent a DUI? Advocacy groups would like us to believe that their scare tactics and subversive marketing campaigns actually make a difference to the common bar-goer and party hound- the truth is, they leave little, if any, lasting impression on those that make the choice to drive under the influence. Those that drive under the influence will continue to drive under the influence with their cough drops, lead feet, and ever-steady hands on the wheel. For individuals who habitually drive under the influence (those for who this article is aimed at), the very people who will ultimately apprehend you(law enforcement agencies do eventually catch up to the drivers who frequently drive drunk- lest we forget that as we increase the frequency of our own drunk driving, we increase the amount of time we spend on the roads, drunk )are the very people who subconsciously and unknowingly prevent your DUI charge. Numbers never lie. The percentages are in your favor.
