Quicksand
Beautiful grains of soft, sultry sand
Far from the salty, slapping waves of the beach,
Hidden, stealth-like, under innocent land,
Can I escape your underground deadly reach?
Quicksand
You reach for my soul like a hungry, lusty leech.
Unsuspecting, I walk your secret-filled path,
Unaware of terminal lessons that you teach,
Unaware of your permanent wrath.
Quicksand
Just a colloid mix of sand, silt, salt, and clay
Belying your sweet, inviting face,
Ready to snare me in your clever way
To a dark, disgusting, forlorn place.
Quicksand
You try to invade my soul
Dark, negative grains of sand that build,
To take me from my lofty goal
To a pit with hate and negativity filled.
Quicksand
Quicksand of the physical landscape
Grabs, unrelentingly, never to let go.
Quicksand of the emotional landscape
Ensnares the soul, thus, an eternal foe.
Quicksand
Quicksand of prejudice, greed, and hate
Seeps discretely into every word, deed, and act,
Change can happen- it's not too late,
But this quicksand is far the worst-it's a fact.
Quicksand
Quicksand of prejudice, hate, and greed
Far more destructive than land of silt, sand, and clay.
Quicksand of negativity and pessimism invade at top speed,
But I will not succumb to your charms-NO WAY!
Quicksand
With your vile, condemning tongue
Be on your sultry way, just go away.
I choose the positive notes to be sung,
To seek what's fair-and keep you at bay.

Life's little soft spots,
sinking places that weren't there before,
as we one moment stand proud and tall,
just one step
I stand amidst the sands of life,
abreast the dune,
in the balance of consciousness, its eagerness
to pull me down, and devour
