There are a couple of definitions as to what constitutes a domain name. Put in simple, layman terms, a domain name is the name of a website. Therefore, an example of a domain name is: www.example.com. A URL on the other hand would look like this: http://www.example.com. As I stated, there are many definitions for what constitutes a domain name, but the definition that is stated above is the most basic, and probably the most popular, definition without getting into a hyper technical computer and Internet programming conversation.

A domain name is a website name. Why is this significant? This is significant because a lot of thought and planning should go into a domain name. A domain name should be something that is easy to remember and easy to find. If it is, it will be easier for you to advertise your website and thus, it will be easier for you to obtain very important Internet traffic. Traffic can lead to increased sales, more clicks on your advertisements, and basically, more money.

Obtaining a catchy, easy to remember domain name is not an easy task because many names that you may think of may already be owned by another individual or company. As such, you may have to think of many different names in order to secure the name that you want. This means that you may have to expand upon the name of which you were thinking. For example, if you wanted www.makemoney.com and this domain name was already taken, you could, for example, try to obtain www.makemoneyonline.com or www.makemoneyquickly.com.

As stated above, the purpose of a good domain name is to drive traffic to your site. Therefore, do not settle for a subpar domain name. Take your time, look around, and think of alternative name should your primary choice or choices be unavailable. The last thing you want to do is purchase a domain name that does not help your business.

The point is, when obtaining a domain name, you need to think creatively, obtain a domain name that is easy to remember, and utilize the same in order to make money on the Internet. Having a bad domain name is not fatal to your Internet success, but it can seriously deter you ability to make Internet profits.
