The Iraq war has affected the quality of life in the US in many ways...unfortunately, all bad. First of all we are spending billions and billions of dollars in a foreign war that we wrongly entered in the first place. The cost of our little mission in Iraq since we began "shock and Awe" a little more than five years ago? Over 500 BILLION dollars. That is BILLION with a B. This breaks down to $4,681 per household, $1,721 per person and $341.4 million per day.
Talk about Shock and Awe!
We entered Iraq, all because our fearless president wanted people to remember him as the man who conquered terrorism. He knew he could never be a great president, not even a bad one like his dad, George Sr. He was destined to be a miserable failure...unless...he could enter a war, causing a diversion, and conquer those mean evil Iraqis who were hell bent on destroying the U.S and bringing all mankind to the brink of oblivion.
G.W.B would then be a hero. We would see his face on Mt. Rushmore along side other great presidents of the past, Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson and Bushy. Nice try "W". Way to go! You invaded a country who was more of a threat to themselves than they were to our soils. You, Dick, Rummy and Condi were convinced that WMD were over there just waiting to be launched. The only problem is, there was no WMD. The war did not end in a few weeks, but has lasted over five years now.
Thousands of U.S soldiers have died in Iraq about 4,000 as I write this to be exact, not to mentioned hundreds of thousands of Iraq citizens. Every soldier who has died, has family. That may be a brother/sister, a wife or husband, mother or father and friends. These people who lost loved ones in the war suffer also. These family members will never be the same, their loss will hang over their heads forever.
The price of oil is through the roof, gas prices are at an all time high. People are seeing their gas prices rise every week with no end in site. This is a direct result of the Iraq War. The economy sucks. People are losing their jobs, through no fault of their own. Because of job loss and rising interest rates many Americans are losing their homes. The American dollar is weak. I believe that all of this is a direct result of the amount of money and resources being utilized in Iraq.
We need to begin pulling out troops out of Iraq and focus on improving the quality of life here in the United States of America. We need to get the economy moving again, we need to create new high paying jobs for our workers and we need to quit sending jobs overseas. I believe that the person to help us accomplish this will be Barack Obama.
