Poetry: A fallen world

Take a look around you
A hard, and truthful glance
At the world we have created
In our paths exist no balance

See the gallons of blood spilled
They number above the trillions
Young, brave lives have been taken
Patriotically, by the billions

See our rulers failing
Promising much false hope
Begging for our trust, our dollars
Just so they can fill their purses up

See the children starving
When the food on earth is ample
Avenues for the rich to increase their riches
As our rulers have, for example

See the sick and weak
No medicine, disease abounding
What hope is there for these
With the threat of death resounding

See the price tags soaring high
The poor increasingly poorer
Struggling, wishing, giving up hope
Finding no answers at the church on the corner

See the families, all but extinct
Divorce and abuse running rampant
Staying together is a rarity today
Vows are forsaken every moment

See the wars, the never ending wars
The blood and the tears never cease
Fighting in the name of God
How can any bring true peace

Take a look and see the pain
Ignorance won't breed bliss
Take a look and see the truth
Its as painful as a betrayer's kiss
