Music, clones and no talent!
I cannot cover the 50's or 60's as I was not around, but my love for music would have become more stronger within the 80's; and music was music, I mean real instruments were used and could be played using more than three notes. However, today's brain-wave producers are more likely to have ripped off a dance tune that was banged up in five minutes on a computer; then getting some clone female to come and sing words from a old 60's or 70's hit.
This is not talent, it's some fool that's lazy and runs out buying up rights to re-release a once great hit, just to kill this great tune dead. It's upsetting when you see how the music world has lowered itself by bringing out a load of rubbish; but worse is seeing how fast people will run out and spend almost 5 on a single CD or even 3 on a tinny ring-tone that sounds nothing like the tune.
I'm not getting old, really I'm not! But when you hear the likes of "Brittany Spears" who sound more like a herd a sheep as you walk by a field, the sheep sound more appealing. But not only did Brittany have to go down the road of voice-training, many other up-and-coming female singers took a visit to the same field, to tune their vocal cords. I'm sure that there is also a wannabe cloning factory out there that every day is churning out under-weight, blond-haired girls just for the music industry. Take a look at "Pink", she started out well, but she has even taken on the sheep-look and "Christina Aguilera" now has the sheep vocals down to an art.
It's now even getting to the point that good singers who had talent are now also lowering themselves to try and appeal to the young audience, look at Mariah Carey, she did really well back in the 90's, but now she, like many others have made changes to her voice and wears as less as possible. To tell the truth her new track "Touch My Body" should be "Here's My Body (take a good look)". When you look at many of the older male artists like Phil Collins, you don't see him running around in his underwear trying to encourage new fans. It's sad to think our female singers think that the only way to sell a tune is to almost sell themselves at the same time.
Now let's go over to the men, if it's not a boy band that look more like quads, it's some guy that you can guarantee has the vocal cords of zero and the only way to get yet again another tone-deaf song over is to walk on a beach shirtless screaming out "How much I need your body boo-hoo". Then we also have the low-class song writers making more money writing one verse and repeating the chorus over and over until the end of the song.
When was the last time someone stayed on the music scene for more than one album? I know I'm being hard, but many of my friends are younger then myself and hate the music that the world today loves to throw at us. The younger audience wants a lot more from music, but the only "more" they get is being brain-washed into thinking that rubbish or re-hashed songs are all that can be offered; oh and if you look like a Brittany or Justin Timberlake and cannot sing, you are sure to go far.
To the younger readers, don't be conned into thinking that what you hear in the charts is the best ever, listen to some of the 60's, 70's, 80's and so on, you will be sure to hear the original song. More likely you will be able to hear and understand the lyrics, and one more thing, you will hear real instruments being played with more than three notes, really you will, it does exist.
