Climate change and global warming: What should we do about it

Climate change and global warming: What should we do about it?

Good thinking citizens all over the world are listening to the pundits and taking on board the dangers of global warming . We are all keen to do our bit and switch to energy saving light bulbs, turn off equipment on standby, and do everything else recommended to reduce our carbon footprint. We accept without question that there is a problem and that our governments and scientists are conscientiously persuading us all to do the right thing. The level of public response and concern is magnificent and, were it possible for such effort to succeed, the global warming problem could be considered well and truly solved. The problem is, however, that our governments seem to have different ideas about the nature of global warming, it's cause and effects and the consequences of their actions. Whilst they oblige their citizens to save energy they waste unprecedented amounts in waging global and illegal wars. Whilst they introduce anti pollution measures for road vehicles we daily witness mass destruction of oil pipelines and global scale pollution in Iraq and Afghanistan. While we save a few milliamperes we see the Chinese developing multi megawatt , polluting, coal fired power stations to satisfy the power demands of China's developing billions. The magnificent efforts of western citizens are rendered futile by the inefficacy of their governments and the global lack of political intelligence, resource and determination to tackle the real problems.

Personally I cannot take my government seriously when they obviously do not realize or accept their responsibilities in the global scale of things. Just one of those explosions in Iran or Afghanistan is going to counteract a lifetime of low energy light bulbs and switching off standbys on my part. The plumes of stenchingly black smoke rising skyward from ruptured and burning oil pipelines will undo the savings made by millions of westerners switching to low pollution vehicles. The massive imports of cheap Chinese goods underwrite the increasing pollution caused by the Chinese industrial revolution and renders all our western efforts to reduce global warming in vain. Indeed, our government in the UK seems to be blissfully unaware of the true consequence of global warming and interested only in the tax raising potential! My Government should stop waging war, stop killing innocent civilians, stop causing global pollution, stop supporting major global polluters, stop pursuing
