Advertising is a part of business. Without advertising, it would be very hard for companies to inform the public about its products and/or services. This would lead to overall decreases in sales, a decrease in the amount of available jobs, and a decrease in the overall economic output and input. As such, advertising is an important part of the world in which we live. However, because some people and some companies have taken advantage of the advertising game, many people have become far more skeptical and less willing to buy. As such, even though these shady businesses may have experienced a large initial profit, its continuing profits have probably dwindled to nothing and such companies' questionable advertising tactics have damaged many people.
In my opinion, the biggest problem that people have with advertising is when they are promised the stars but receive nothing that comes close to sky. In other words, elaborate promises that are not met make people angry. As such, the gain skepticism and thus, are unwilling to try a new, legitimate product. This is obviously bad for business. However, if these deceitful advertising campaigns were limited, it probably would not be a big deal. Unfortunately, many people believe that nowadays, there is a 50/50 chance that they product that they will buy is complete garbage. Thus, instead of running the risk of throwing money away, people simply refuse to buy.
This is a sad phenomenon because there are many good products in the market place that could add convenience, time, comfort, and/or all of the above to the everyday lives of many people. However, because false advertising or deceitful advertising is so prevalent in the market place, people are fed up with advertisers.
Of all the places that false advertisements can be found, it appears that the Internet is the most common place to find them. This is a serious problem because the Internet is a great way to create additional revenue. However, because many people and companies have engaged in the "promise you the world but delivered nothing but dirt" advertising campaign, people are unwilling to better their position by purchasing a quality product because they relate both the bad product and the quality product as the same.
False advertisements exist and because they exist to such a high degree, people have become fed up. The only way that advertisers will be able to regain the trust of potential customers is by being held accountable for their advertisements.
