Where to buy a good guitar

Here's an idea. Don't buy a guitar from a shoe store. That's like buying a chicken dinner in a fish place. You can do it but you may be disappointed with the results. A good place from which to conduct a market survey on guitars would be the World Wide Web.

Google up "buying a good guitar" and you will discover "joetheguitarman.com" I have no idea who Joe is but I do know, from his website, that he doesn't sell shoes, chicken, or fish. So this is a good place to start. Joe has some good ideas worth considering. He says knowing the kind of music you want to play makes a difference in the brand, type, and finally the source. For example, "It is hard to play rock and roll on a classical guitar." Oh sure you can do it, but the final product will be disappointing.

Another consideration is how much money you have to spend. Joe says don't buy a cheap guitar because they are hard on your fingers. Plan to spend at least $300.00. If you want a good acoustic guitar then buy a Martin, Ibanex, or a Gibson. If you want a decent electric then look at the Fender Stratocasters. DO NOT GET THE MADE IN CHINA, KOREA, OR JAPAN versions. None the the really good guitar players use them.

The Internet will provide many places from which you can buy a good guitar. The best idea is to buy from a local vendor. That way you can see it, handle it, and play it prior to purchase. If you ask for lessons the store just might toss in some free ones. And if something should happen to the guitar the retailer will help you with whatever problem you might have.

Good luck and good playing.
