Men!
I'm surrounded by them....frustrated by them...intrigued by them...
Did I mention frustrated by them? I happen to work in a male dominated business. My social circles, particularly here in Texas, are male-dominated and it just so happens that this geographical region seems to be male dominated (at least very much more than what I've experienced in Canada).
Now I sit here in this male dominated region of the USA about to spend a weekend with a group of men, while working in a male dominated industry, that is taking place amidst a male dominated sporting event and hoping all of us live to tell about it.
The nature/nurture debate aside, I certainly try not to buy into most stereotypical categorizations, but I have taken enough seminars and training sessions on the biological and physiological characteristic differences between men and women to respect that we are indeed wired differently.
So what's a girl to do? Granted, I can stand my own and I do - but in all honesty I find myself thinking time and time again the words: "and they say we're difficult to understand?"
My female friends and I often have this conversation. There's no hidden meaning and if they don't know exactly where I stand on something if they'd just ask they'd get a direct answer immediately. For some reason they think we're masking identities when we're baring our souls.
Yes, I suppose its a given that their view from the other side is equally as amusing, intriguing and frustrating.
Take for instance my fifteen year old son's absolute confusion around why a women go to the restroom in pairs in public places. "Men don't ask their friends to go with them." he tells me. I shake my head at how quickly he's grown up and how far he has yet to go. I carefully give him a brief insight into a woman's world for his own benefit. I explain to him that its akin to
