Ya know, let's be honest work is work. We all know this. It's a job. But, what is so difficult is when you truly give all you have; and what you give just isn't good enough. It isn't that it isn't good enough, it is just that the company you work for just doesn't recognize it.
Okay, you might be shrugging your shoulders thinking sure she gave. Well here's my story. I worked for six years in a call center. Although my job was not the typical call center job. The atmosphere was still "call center." If you have never worked in this type of atmosphere before then I don't think you will get this. If you have well, you are shaking your head in agreement. There is nothing like it. Why? Because basically you are just a person in a seat. You have nothing worth giving, just be in your seat and that is all that matters.
Well, I'm not the kind of person that can just sit. I work and I work hard, and when I see better ways of managing things, I speak up. Which I did. I made difference, and worked out better ways of managing things.
My words are little, "things". Because that is how they are recognized. I can use large words, I can use business words, but let's just be simple here for a moment. Because that is all they see so I am speaking on their level.
I approached management and brought great ideas to them. Ideas they relished and used. Ideas that brought them closer to their goal and raised the bar. It meant nothing to them as to what I was capable of. They used my ideas and ran with them. I sat and waited for something more for myself. It never came. I just kept the attitude I was there to do a job and I got paid for that job. I did it well, I gave my all. I was a bigger person then them so to speak. I was okay with it. Okay, well almost okay with it. Okay enough that I got through six years at this job.
After applying for other jobs that would be more satisfying to myself and would use my skills and training more to the fullest and being turned down; I learned a hard lesson, THEY DON'T CARE.
If you are bringing something to the table that is beyond what they know they don't want to hear it. They my friend it is time to cut your losses and move on, which I did. I left that job, after six years of pouring my heart and soul into thinking that my work was worth something. I gave my notice, completed my noticed and walked out the door. Not a good bye, not a thank you, not a nothing. Nothing I did mattered and it was obvious it just didn't matter.
Some jobs just have you there to fill a seat and they can care less what you have to offer. They don't want to hear it. And yes, my friends if you have to move on it is best for you. So move on and move forward, there are better things out there. I happily employed where I do matter and it was the best thing I ever did. Don't waste you time.
