Why it's good to laugh

Life can, at times, be a deadly serious matter. There are times when we experience tragedy, heartache, and deeply thought-provoking situations. To counterbalance this, we must laugh, and laugh as often as possible. This isn't to say that we should hide from our problems. Nor should we try to swing our emotional pendulum from side to side in order to live a balanced life. Rather, we should remember that life can be enjoyable and admidst the drudgery and routine of our sometimes boring lives, we can find mirth.

Life is extremely short if you think about it. When we are kids we want to be adults and when we become adults we lament how fast our childhood went. Soon we are feeling old and death is staring us in the face. Throughout all this, we must laugh so that the shortness of life can be enjoyed while we are here. We need to tell jokes and stories, and we need to remember times that were fun in our past. Also, we need to look to have funny dialogue with others. The person who seeks out humor usually finds it in one form or another.

I love to laugh. I love to laugh with my friends and my family. I love to laugh at work and when I'm driving around listening to the radio. Life is funny, and people are funny. Situations are funny, and groups are funny. That doesn't mean you should make fun of everybody, but the person who can find humor in most situations tends to live a happier life. I love it when I laugh so hard that it hurts. It may sound strange that you want to have physical pain from laughing, but those who have laughed that hard in the past will understand.

We tend to be pretty stressed in this country, which leads to high blood pressure and early death. Therefore, it is important for us to take time for laughter. Sometimes we need to just slow down and take a break. Watch a funny movie or a television program. Read a funny book. Go out to coffee with a friend and tell funny stories. A doctor may not prescribe going to a comedy club, but he may tell you to find a way to relax a bit. Whatever you do, take some time for laughter. It will truly do you good.
