If you ever find yourself in the situation where you are being pulled over and suspected of driving under the influence, there are few things which you should keep in mind; self control, communication and complete cooperation.Remember, when being pulled over that you are only suspected of D.U.I. and that by controlling yourself and staying calm, intelligently communicating and, completely cooperating with the officer that has made the stop will do more good than harm.These day's always keep in mind that when you are suspected of D.U.I. and being stopped, that there is a very good chance that your actions and answers are being recorded on tape for later use in prosecution should the officer feel that you are indeed intoxicated.

When being stopped immediately pull to the side of the road and put your emergency flashers on. Roll down your window when approached by the officer making the stop and calmly and honestly answer any and all questions you are asked. Losing your temper and arguing with the officer will only make the officer more suspicious, cause the situation to escalate and get worse.Only exit the vehicle after you are asked to and promptly go where you are directed.Once you are at the directed spot you will be asked a series of questions which will help the officer making the stop to determine whether to administer a series of field sobriety tests.These test's mostly deal with your ability to walk in a straight line, stay balanced and eye - hand coordination.Stay calm and perform the tests to the best of your ability, these tests are the officers final determining factor in whether to arrest you or not.If and when it is determined that you are intoxicated you will be placed under arrest, read your miranda rights, then you will be handcuffed and placed in the patrol car to be taken to the police station for booking.

Following these few simple steps of calmly controlling yourself, intelligently communicating and complete cooperation will make the arresting officers job easier and will help you in court should you find yourself being prosecuted for driving under the influence.
