Federal government economic stimulus deal: How will you spend your rebate check?

I received a letter in the mail the other day from the government. According to the letter, I qualify for an economic stimulus check that will be mailed out in May. The economic stimulus checks are going to be sent to about 130 million households and will range in payments. A single person can get six hundred dollars, married couples can get twelve hundred, and those with children can get three hundred dollars more per child. In order to qualify a person must meet income requirements and file a tax return for 2007.

This is apparently a one-time thing but it could not have come at a better time. Everything is so expensive, I think we all deserve a little break. I am very excited about the extra cash. To me, it is like free money and in that sense, there's really no wrong way that it can be spent. There are so many possibilities out there that I have fun just thinking about my options.

I wish I could say I was going to do something spectacular with the money like throw it from the rooftops or donate it to charity. Unfortunately, at this time, I am unable to oblige. I need the money just for basic daily living. My family lives on a budget and this extra cash will help us get the bonuses that we deserve.

The first thing on my agenda is going to be to catch up on any bills that may have fallen by the wayside. We owe a few people some money from personal loans and would like to take care of those, also. Once those things are paid off, I will be free to spend the rest in whichever way I see fit.

Because I am a yard sale junkie, I would like to take a hundred dollars and just go crazy. I know that I will end up with a lot of junk that I don't need but I still have fun looking for bargains. Yard sales are great places to buy gently used clothes and household items for the whole family. The stuff may not be brand new, but it is new to us.

Next, I plan on getting the Harley back on the road. My husband and I love to ride our motorcycle but it is kind of hard to do with no battery, tags, or insurance. We have put other bills in front of our need to cruise the open roads. I will take this opportunity to get everything in order and get us back into the biker lifestyle we crave and miss.

If there is any money left, it will go into the bank so that we have a little extra to live on. Money gets spent so fast; it is often hard to even know where it all went. I don't plan on being frivolous or going crazy with the extra cash but, I definitely will be grateful for it and I will be smiling all the way to the check cashing office.
