I have a one-person business here at home and I must say it's the best thing I've ever done for myself. No more time clocks, no more bosses, and no one telling me what to do when I know I can do it better. It's awesome.

The day is long for me, but I take breaks and I think that is the key to working at home and putting in as many or as "few" hours as you can. No one gets rich quick working at home, but then again we don't get rich working for a boss or company either. There are the pros and cons, but there is nothing like getting up in the morning with a cup of coffee and starting work in one's pajamas.

However when you work at home, doesn't mean you can lounge around in bed all day (unless your are sick or giving yourself a day off). To successfully be self employed you have to stick to a schedule. I like doing my work during the day, others like it at night. Here is how my schedule works. I get up every morning at 6:30 a.m. I have a cup of coffee with my husband and watch the early local news. We take our time to have breakfast and chat. Then at 8 a.m. sharp, the computer comes on and I work for two to three hours straight. I take a 2 hour break at noon (most of the time). I walk the dog, have lunch and just enjoy the break, or I call friends and we have lunch, whatever, those two hours are mine.

I then get back on the computer and work until 6 or 7 pm. or right after dinner...works great for me, no stress and no miserable commute. And the best very best reason to be self employed is that gas prices do not affect you at all, particularly when you don't use your car to go back and forth to work!

Another great thing about working at home or being self employed, is that even tho you have to work hard to make the money, you can work smartly with the time you have and become more productive. Without coworkers and other distractions, you can accomplish a lot more in two hours than you can at a 9 to 5 job.

I feel the whole country should look into self employment or telecommuting. It would definitely help save the planet. Not only would you save the planet by not using so much gas, you have the time to plan meals, conserve and not use grocery store plasticsl The main thing you have more time for you and your family and can make more or at least the same as you made in a regular job.
