Poetry: Our special friendship

_FRIENDS UNTIL THE END_
(written in 1990)

Our friendship was envied
by all the rest,
we never betrayed one another
nor spoke an unkind word.

We did everything together
and shared all that we
had to offer each other.

Suddenly, without a hint
or a clue, you were off to
start a new life and left
me to continue mine, alone.

Something changed while we
weren't looking and we became
outsiders to each other.

Soon, I moved on, we swore that
we would keep in touch but
somewhere in the course of time,
we lost that touch.

Now I sometimes wonder if you
want to be found, or just left
alone in your life and I in mine.

We always swore we'd be friends
until the end, I just never thought
that the end could come so soon.
