Tips for saving money on your car insurance.

Every person grows up one day to assume the responsibility of a drivers license, and if you're lucky... a car! Unfortunately with all that wonderful responsibility comes the burden of car insurance, but there are ways to keep the dollar amount down to an affordable figure. Though these tips may vary by state and company, it never hurts to try.

1. Ask about recreational driving status. If you take the bus or any other form of public transportation to work you may be eligible for what is termed "Recreational Driver Status." Driving to and from work, especially in rush hour traffic can increase your chances of having a wreck, therefore increasing your premium.
2. Defensive Driving/ Alcohol and Drug awareness classes. Most states offer these kinds of classes to help keep a traffic ticket off of your record and keep your insurance down, but you don't have to be in trouble to take them, you can take them any time just to lower your insurance rates.
3. Inquire about monthly EFT payments. In this increasingly technological day and age, a lot of companies prefer EFT (The automatic drafting of your payment from your checking account) over checks and credit cards. Some are even willing to offer you a discount for it.
4. Check the benefits of your profession. Many degrees and certifications, such as education and engineering, come with unannounced perks. Like a small discount on your car insurance.
5. Bundle your services if you need another form of insurance such as renters, homeowners, life insuranceetc. The majority of companies offer a plethora of coverage, and for each additional service you use of theirs they may offer a discount.

Now is the time to pick up your phone and start asking questions, after all YOU are the customer, and isn't the customer is always right? Be sure to ask your insurance provider for any other discounts they may offer that may not have been mentioned here. You don't pay them simply for coverage, you pay them for the information they can provide you with. Good luck with your savings.
