Brittany Spears has fallen from grace. That's no secret. The once hugely popular pop singer went from superstar to paparazzi favorite, parental cautionary tale, and butt of any number of jokes in almost no time at all.
Spears' decline seem to begin a little before or around the time she married dancer Kevin Federline. Spears began turning up at Hollywood clubs and parties. It was clear that her fame and success was beginning to get to her.
After she became a mother twice over, some thought she might calm her ways for the sake of her children. Of course, numerous photos and videos began to turn up of her almost dropping a child or driving with the child in the front seat with no seat belt, which is actually a criminal offense. Then it was all downhill. She was in and out of rehab, shaved her head, went on suicide watch, and more. There were a few tenuous days that many expected her to end her own life. Luckily, those days seem to have passed.
So what does Spears need to do to get her life back on track?
The answer is extraordinarily simple. She needs to go away and not return for a long, long time. I don't mean this in a cruel way at all. I mean, she needs to readjust to life without camera flashes, parties, drugs, and drama. She needs to get out of Hollywood and go far away where the cameras can't find her. She needs to take a spiritual journey, of sorts, and figure out what she wants from life. This present path she is on can't lead to anything good unless she puts things back in perspective.
Beyond this, Spears needs legitimate psychological help. She needs real therapy, perhaps from someone outside the Hollywood experience. This is not to belittle the work of her past therapists, but clearly it has not been working. She may need a fresh perspective. The key may be getting the help she needs far removed from the pressures and distractions of her current lifestyles. For example, even when Spears checked herself into rehab a few months ago, a place, by the way, that sounded nicer than any hotel I've ever stepped foot in, the paparazzi descended. Helicopters hovered above and took pictures for People and the National Enquirer. She was still very much in a fragile state and unable to escape the media.
At one point, Spears was a sweet, innocent girl. It's hard to see that when we see her now, but underneath all those issues is most likely a good person. Sure, she's made a number of terrible decisions, but we as a society should blame ourselves as much as we blame her. We salivated at her demise. A news story is only as big as the number of people watching it. If we stop watching, she will be left alone. But for that to happen, I think she needs to leave the country and head to a remote part of the world for a spell. And only she can make that decision.
