What should Britney Spears do to get back on track?

by Jennifer Winchester

Created on: March 31, 2008

Ah, the never-ending saga that is the life of popstar Britney Spears. Her name has become a household name, and her personal demons and issues are plastered on the covers of magazines and across websites. She cannot even use a public restroom, in bare feet, without being hounded by photographers. "Real" Americans, those who do not live their lives under the scope of celebrity, face similar issues on a regular basis, but the world remains unaware or unconcerned. However, Britney's bitter divorce and custody battle is headline news. She and her family are unable to properly cope with their personal problems because of the onslaught of paparazzi on every corner.

In order for Britney to overcome her private issues and rumored psychological illness, she must find solace and privacy. Beneath the horrible wardrobe choices and cheap weave, there is a star that entertained millions and did so with great accomplishment. Somewhere, inside, that figure still resides. Media scrutiny has clearly gotten to the young star. Who wouldn't be self-conscious after being mercilessly mocked for having gained a few pounds? Who wouldn't be ashamed or embarrassed if their personal mental illness became public knowledge? Britney, although a celebrity, still faces real issues. Her first order of business in getting back on track should be to educate herself and her family on bipolar disorder (if the reports of diagnosis are factual). Without having an understanding of the disorder, she is likely to succumb to its symptoms. Comply with the medication!

Secondly, Britney must determine, by and for herself, what makes her happiest. If she still yearns for a career in stardom, she must learn to balance that lifestyle with her family. Her two young children offer a great release from the pressures of Hollywood and the music business. They should remain a primary focus in order for her to find success. In the midst of a hard-fought custody battle, she has to work hardest for those things that are most important. Grabbing this bull by the horns will help to alleviate any self-doubt she may be facing. If she is able to successfully regain a positive relationship with her children, she is one step closer to finding herself back on the track to success. Getting back on track will certainly require baby steps, and she must remain focused and concerned.

Once she is able to salvage control of her personal life, she can then begin focusing on her career. Britney will fall again if she is not comfortable
