When we are growing old, we find that we start to have problems to memorize something. This is due to lack of caring of your memorizing ability and lack of training of your brain. There are many ways to boost your memory. Here are some ideas from me.
First of all, you should have a healthy diet, which helps to keep your brain young and vigorous. That's the foundation of a good memory. When you have your dinner, try to add something like walnuts, sesame seeds, etc., which are good for the development of your brain.
Second, try to prepare some games to use your head a lot. There are word puzzles, pushing boxes, etc. Many games are good for you to train your brain. This is a good way to keep your brain active and full of life. Consequently, you are boosting your memory.
Third, try to use chop sticks to eat instead of knife and fork. Studies show that a handy person has a more vigorous brain and a good memory. The brain of a handy person is relatively young and vital to his age. Some handicrafts can serve the same purpose as well.
Fourth, try to recite a short poem every day. The poem is not necessarily long, and it is just as good if it is only a few lines. Your aim is to recite it, and keep it in your memory. It is a good way to test if you can memorize things well. Keep it as a habit, and you can benefit a lot from it.
As you know, there are many kinds of memories: receptive memory (referring to the ability to note the physical features of a given stimulus to be able to recognize it at a later time), sequential memory (referring to the ability to recall stimuli in their order of observation or presentation), rote memory (referring to the ability to learn certain information as a habit pattern), and long-term memory (referring to the ability to retrieve information of things learned in the past). If you find you have difficulties with more than one of them, you need to find a systematical method to improve it. My suggestion is that you need to go to see a doctor for more advice if it is the case.
Keep your memory vigorous, you will enjoy your longevity.
