Great creative writing projects for elementary school students

There are many students of all levels of school that just do not enjoy writing. In order to get these particular students interested enough to put their thoughts down on paper it will take a creative idea. A teacher will always have students that love to write, but for those that don't there has to be something that will bring interest to the writing project.

Elementary school students love to tell others about their interests. One project can be to keep a journal. Each morning the routine will be to write a paragraph or more on what they find interesting. Most boys will probably talk about their love for their video games while girls may talk about a boy they have a crush on. This will help enhance their writing skills. Then the project can progress after a week of continuous writing. Ask the students to write about someone they would like to be. The next day ask them to write about a famous person that they admire. Another day can be about what they would do if they had a million dollars. After a week of various writings in their journal, collect them and award the students with the most creative and well written journals. Once this is done you can ask them if they would like to continue to write each day and to try to win a prize each week. I can guarantee that the students would agree. After all, every student loves to be rewarded for good work. They love to be recognized for trying too which doesn't seem to happen much anymore. Giving rewards gives a sense of satisfaction to the student and they will always want to do more.

Some other creative writing projects that an elementary school student would excel in is giving their opinions. They love the idea that their opinion matters and writing about it can give them more confidence and view themselves at a higher level of importance. For instance, the teacher can ask the students to develop questions regarding things they would like answers to. The teacher would take these questions and select three for the children to try to answer themselves. Write an essay on one or all three but the best 10 essays will be rewarded. Students also like their projects to be displayed in the halls for all to see. They love the idea that other people will show interest in what they did. These essays can be displayed outside the classroom. And the teacher can get involved in this project as well and answer several questions that the students have.

Pictures are very important to students especially when they tend to be very visual.
