YouTube is a massive online database of great and sometimes ridiculous videos. You can find almost anything on YouTube, but there is one small problem. To be able to watch You Tube videos you will need to have an Internet connection. Yes this may sound obvious since YouTube is a website, but wouldn't it be great to be able to watch some of the videos when you don't have an Internet connection? Like when your using your laptop on a plain, in the car or on a train? Or maybe you need to show a video a lot to someone and don't want to have to wait for it to load each time you watch it?

It would seem like a great idea to download YouTube videos to your desktop because you could then burn them and transfer them, and watch them when ever and where ever you want! If you just to a quick Google Search you could find a number of websites that allow you to download YouTube videos. Most of these websites work by you copying the web address from your address bar and pasting it into a form then click download, and it will download the movie for you. There is just one problem with this and that is the format in which it downloads the movies in. Since YouTube presents movies on their site in the format of flash, the video that will be downloaded will be in .flv format. Now this isn't exactly a friendly format to play with. You may even need to download a media player for your computer which can play .flv files. That is fine if you want to just watch it on your desktop. But when if you want to burn it to Cd's or put it on a portable video player like and Ipod Video? Sorry but Ipod Videos and most other portable media players can not play .flv files.

Now your probably thinking great, I can download YouTube videos but can't do much of anything with them because of their strange format. To accomplish converting them you will need to download yet another program and then go through complicated steps to convert it, so that isn't exactly easy or fun to do. Being able to watch download and watch YouTube videos should be a pain, it should be quick and easy.
