US elections 2008 commentary: The Democrat candidates

It's unfortunate that race and gender has become the cornerstone of the Democrat Party's bid for the White House. What ever happened to quality and substance? In my view, neither of the Democrat Party candidates has the requisite experience to be President, period.

With Barack's obvious speaking ability, perhaps Opra should have used her vast influence to get him established as a radio or television talk show host. Frankly, I'd sooner vote for Opra for President than Barack - at least we have a perspective on what she stands for. I hear Barack talk constantly about how he intends to "change" America. Curiously, he never says how. Change is a great buzzword, especially if you don't have to define it. I would welcome information on what Barack means by "change", and his agenda for how to bring it about.

In Hillary's situation, she claims to have the greatest experience to assume the role of President. The question is, does being married to a former President, and residing with him in the White House, translate to Presidential qualifying experience? Using my wife as an example, I was a law enforcement agency head and investigator for many years. My wife has heard "war stories" time and again, and has been present when I was faced with making certain decisions. However, my wife did not have to make those decisions, and I'm convinced she is not prepared to assume the role of police chief or private investigator, simply because she lives with me. I'm convinced, despite Hillary's Bosnian heroics, real or perceived, she would make a better Arkansas lawyer than President. Because her positions change like the weather, Hillary might actually make a better Meteorologist.

While I'm not a member of any political party, I am convinced that John McCain is clearly the candidate of choice. He has the experience and stature that neither of the Democrat Party candidates possesses. Moreover, while his platform has not been presented in its entirety, I believe he has the wisdom to make better choices relative to international affairs.

For one thing, I believe it would be a horrible mistake to simply pull our troops out of Iraq. To do this will send the message we have given up. The Iran-sponsored terrorists will claim victory and, within a short amount of time, they will take over Iraq and decimate its current leaders. Iran and Al-Quaida will use Iraq as their base of operations in their quest to destroy Israel, and they will move to take
