10 Ways to use decorative window film
Have you ever walked around an old homestead or an old church and looked at the windows with their leaded lights? It is difficult to say you are not attracted to this old form of decoration as it catches your eye. There seems to be something personal and homely in its application, maybe the vision contains memories of a fairy tale, grandma's home, or a journey or place you have visited which have secretly embedded themselves in your memory. Within us all are these desires long buried.
Maybe you have always wanted to have a scene or an aspect of nature etched into the glass around your entrance door, or maybe something personal, which displays your character, or creates and enhances a character we all like to build into our homes.
With values and perceptions locked into the old format of construction and application, we tend to internally shelve the prospect of ever having anything like it. Today we are privileged in no longer having to console ourselves with these memories or dreams of hope; we can actually bring these alive without the expense or the time which traditional leaded lighting and frostings would attract.
With the advent of graphic art has come a new industry, an industry that can create these images literally at the push of a button enabling any size windows and patio doors to be transformed into a talking point with friends and relatives alike.
Mostly these artistic products are created using static film and are easily applied using water and a squeegee; giving you great satisfaction and your home a rich pleasing face-lift. With this application there is the added bonus of security by making the glass virtually shatter proof.
The beauty of this decorative window film is you can use it for varying levels of privacy and security as well as transforming a room or outlook with out losing any transmition of light.
Entrance doorways that often have glass surrounding them are transformed into centerpieces of attraction and warmth.
Glazed dividing doors can be transformed into room dividers adding privacy.
Patio doors are transformed into works of art as well as being a safety feature stopping people trying to walk through them.
Small windows that look out onto obscurity like a brick wall or a neighbour's back yard can be diffused without inhibiting the light coming in and become visually pleasing.
Skylights, which are a good application often, do not suit the dcor; this treatment can transform them into pleasing additions relaxing the peripheral vision.
Bathroom windows benefit from the frosted look if you are looking for privacy especially bathrooms upstairs which are generally exposed to your neighbours outlook. The application is translucent letting light in but not prying eyes, at nighttime though slight shadows could possibly be seen.
Shower screens can also be decorated with this balancing all the glass in the room.
Equally mirrors can be decorated with the leaded light appearance
When being applied to external windows you get the same benefits as window tinting with reduced Ultraviolet and Infrared rays entering the home saving on heating and cooling costs.
An important part of applying decorative film is the added security it gives to the glass itself, rendering it almost shatterproof and aspect worth considering when insuring your home against intruders.
If you have any doubts to the quality and appearance of leaded light and frosted applications, the following two sites will stir your imagination and desire to the point of doing the same in your own home.
