As a child I always look forward to Easter. I always thought it was great spring Holiday. I liked all things about it, but the one Easter I will never forget, was when I was nine.
That year we had chosen to spend easter with my Grandma and Grandpa; my moms parents. My grandpa worked road construction so they moved from job to job. This year they were in south east Utah. Near Monument Valley.
My brothers two best friends came with us. The boys ended up sleeping in the camper on the back of the pick up truck. My mom and I slept in the fifth wheeler with my grandparents. It was crowded in there.
The night before easter we had realized we forgot the baskets, so we ended up using paper plates instead. I was excited to be spending Easter with my grandparents. I was a Little sad that i didn't have my Easter basket. I wondered as I went to sleep how is he going to get all the stuff on the plate.
The next morning I woke up there on my plate was two stuffed bunnies, and lots of yummy candy to eat. My brother and his friends got neat stuff also. As we searched though our stuff, we talked about what we wanted to do that day.
We decided to go to monument valley, and see the interesting rock formations. As we drove to go out there we stopped and I got a postcard of the formation we were to see. I was excited, as I had never been here before.
We got off the main road on to dirt trails. Driving along we came upon the wrecked four-Wheeler. It was a kid about fourteen to sixteen. He had been out driving away from his family and lost control. He was laying in a lump, his helmet was cracked. His leg was hurt.
After a few minutes other people started to come by. My grandma took control. She started to see what could be done. They know not to move him but the sun was extremely hot that day. They found blankets and used them to make shade for him. His leg was broken, they used th sun visor from my grandma truck to split it.
I'm not quite sure who, but some did called 911 and help was on the way. Also we needed to find out who he belonged to. Some one had been sent out to see if we could find them. A while later his family showed up. They had been worried about him, now they were even more so.
They were grateful for what had been done for him. I remember them talking to my family and others telling them he was not to be riding by his self. Not long after that the ambulance showed up. hey took him to the closest hospital, it as still forty five minutes away.
We never did get to see the Monuments that Monument valley is named after. Every year about Easter time I think of that. It didn't matter that no body knew him; we all cared he was hurt and wanted to help
