How should Lebanon address its "Palestinian issue" and what can the international community do to help?

Title endorsed in part by:

by Lim Wei

The Palestinian issue has been going on since the formation of Israel in homeland for the Jewish people in back in 1947 which in part was done out of guilt by the great powers in Europe to atone for the atrocities committed towards the Jewish people during the course of World War 2. As a result of this many wars and ongoing conflicts has scarred the not only towards the lands of the Middle East but also on a more International scale the relationships between followers of the great three Abrahamic faiths across the world!

Not only that many neighboring countries has to face a Palestinian Issue' of some sort. No other country has been hit hard by this issue other than Lebanon. Throughout the years of ongoing hostilities between the neighbors of the Middle East, Lebanon has receive influx of refugees of Palestinians thus causing lots of problems for the country in terms of immigration policies and safeguarding the Lebanese economy to this external variable. The concerns of Lebanese should however be noted since they need to safeguard their job opportunities for their own people.

As a result Lebanon is face with a problem which by itself to much to handle. Lebanon could begin to address this issue by working more closely with major organizations like the United Nations and with their fellow neighboring countries to begin formulating a new plan to control the influx of Palestinian refugees out of Palestine. Lebanon could also begin to look at this problem as an opportunity to enrich and strengthen their workforce for their economy by granting more work permits to alleviate the economic burden of Lebanon. This could be an advantageous move since it could help alleviate the economic burden of Lebanon in maintaining the various refugee camps it has as well as it borders from further intrusions. Better yet if the people of Lebanon are willing why don't they just grant more citizenship to these refugees (provided they pass the requirement) and educate them to be an important asset to the Lebanese economy.

However it should noted that those initial steps are just short term solutions to provide relief to Lebanon. The international community must play a bigger role to end this Palestinian Issue'. The international community must begin to put more pressure to get the America, Israel, the United Nations and all the Arabic countries to finally come to a final and peaceful conclusion about the status of Israel and more importantly the welfare and dignity of the people of Palestine. For it is this issue lies the heart of the problem. If this can't be resolve quickly and peacefully I fear not only more Palestinians will suffer but the entire region in the Middles East will continue to suffer as well!
