The historical connection between banking, business and government was generally agreed upon system enacted in the early 1900's. The federal banking charters granted at that time were a return to the system advocated and ran by Mr. Hamilton for 20+ years in the mid-1800's. It was designed to bring uniformity to currency, install federal supervision of the banking system and other safety features.
Now we look at the historical connection between banking, business and government and find them all in the same barrel! We seldom see or hear about Ben Bernanke, head of the Reserve system, without his title and biography which includes a considerable stints in banking, business and government.
When business began to whine about the credit crunch emanating from the housing crisis, banking and government were quick to rise to their aid with a concentrated effort to bring more capitol into the market place, both long term and day to day. Did this help the ordinary man? I think not!
When the housing crisis began to re-shape the stock exchanges into a black pit, both the government and banking leaped in with enormous amounts of aid. All of the aid went to stop the drain on the mortgage business, prop up the government mortgage insurance arm and other safety features. Were foreclosed families directly aided? Not the least!
The high price of oil forced a corresponding action by government to release some of its reserves to, more or less, cap the price of oil and gasoline. Government also attempted to prevail upon the major oil companies to release any reserves they might have. Government fired off a letter to OPEC asking for an immediate increase in production to hold down the price of a barrel of oil. Did anything occur that might be held up and noted as an aid to the common man? No sireee Bob!
The point of the above activities and countless others you could cite is banking, business and government have joined forces and are just about the same kind of entity. There just isn't any separation between the CEO of the Bank of America, the CEO of Standard Oil and the President of the country. If you looked a bit closer at the structure of each, you would find that the Chairman of the House of Representatives, Ways and Means Committee; Mr. Ben Bernanke, head of the Federal Reserve Committee; and a wide array of CEO's from major industry, all know and deal with each other on a regular basis. In fact, Ben Bernanke has a regular, monthly, appointment before both the House and Senate of the United States.
One begins to wonder how much closer these people and entities can get before we see a collapse of any pretense of a separation. The Constitution of the United States provides for a separate division of government - Executive (The Presidents office and staff) Legislative (House and Senate and their extensive staff) and Judicial (the Courts and their staff). Are we to see these arms of government and society simply fade into one large Gordian Knot - so intently wrapped up in itself that there is no finding of the individual strands anymore?
